This 11-day expedition is a choreographed immersion into the soul of Sri Lanka’s hill country. It is designed for the traveler who seeks the cool, thin air of the highlands and the stories trapped within colonial tea estates. We begin with a "Soft Landing" in Negombo before ascending into the mist.
The journey is defined by verticality—climbing the spiral tower of Ambuluwawa and trekking the ridges of Ella—balanced perfectly with the rhythmic "clink-clack" of the world’s most scenic train rides. We conclude with a sharp pivot from the green peaks to the golden granite of the Galle Dutch Fort, ensuring your final memories are a blend of maritime history and urban Colombo energy.
Arrival at BIA. Your Ceylonaa Navigator transitions you from the terminal to the tranquil coastal vibe of Negombo. We prioritize a soft start; spend the evening at leisure, perhaps a cocktail by the shore to shake off the flight exhaustion before the ascent begins tomorrow.

Journey toward the hills. We reach Kandy, the island's last royal kingdom. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic at dusk, where the ritual drumming and scent of jasmine provide a sensory grounding. Conclude the day at a hidden viewpoint for a private silhouette of the Kandy Lake.

Today is about perspective. We visit the Ambuluwawa Tower, a unique biodiversity complex with a spiral ascent that tests your pulse. In the afternoon, we ground the energy with a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens, home to the world’s most impressive orchid collection and giant Javanese fig trees.

Trade the road for the rails. We board the train from Peradeniya to Nanu Oya, passing through the first major tier of tea plantations. Upon arrival in "Little England," we visit a Boutique Tea Factory to witness the mechanical choreography of tea production.

Explore the flora of the Hakgala Botanical Gardens, nestled under the shadow of the Hakgala Rock. Later, visit the misty pastures of Ambewela Farm—often called "Little New Zealand"—to enjoy fresh dairy amidst the rolling green hills.

Today features the most iconic stretch of the Sri Lankan railway. The journey to Ella is a masterclass in scenery. Upon arrival, we head directly to the Nine Arches Bridge, watching the train glide over the colonial stone arches from a private jungle viewpoint.

A "High-Pulse" morning with a hike up Mini Adam’s Peak for sunrise over the Ella Gap. Later, visit the roaring Ravana Falls. The afternoon is reserved for the Ella Gap itself—a breathtaking perspective where the highlands drop off into the southern plains.

It is the "Fridge of Sri Lanka." Temperatures can drop to 10°C at night. We recommend bringing "technical layers" and a warm jacket for the evenings.
The spiral gets narrow toward the top. If you have a fear of heights, you can stop at the base platform which still offers incredible views. Your Navigator will stay with you throughout.
Ella is the "vibe" capital of the hills. 3 nights allow you to balance the major sights (Nine Arches, Mini Adam’s Peak) with the essential relaxation that defines the town.
While this tour is focused on hills and heritage, we can easily add a day trip to Udawalawe or Yala from Ella if you wish to see wildlife.
